Bethal SPCA

With so many animals in and around Bethal needing our support we have recently been overwhelmed with a lack of resources to care for all of them (e.g., food, medicine, blankets, shelter, staff, fuel to reach them etc.). In addition to caring for the animals both in our care and in the communities where they cannot afford to care for them, we do sterilisations to prevent the influx of new animals born daily. When left unchecked a dog can have over ten litters in her lifetime; The average litter is 5 puppies. Most dogs will not be able to produce this number of healthy litters and remain healthy themselves and in mass breeding situations animals are generally not housed or treated in a manner adequate to their needs. Nor are the mothers or litters provided with the medical care they require. They languish under the worst conditions confined in basements, sheds, and garages. They are kept in small, cramped spaces and the breeding animals are sometimes chained, underfed, and mistreated. We are embarking on a sterilisation campaign from 1 August 2022 to 30 November 2022 (5 months). We have set a goal to sterilise a minimum of 30 dogs in and around our community.

We also want to raise money for dog food to enable us to feed our dogs in the kennels as well as any dogs that may be going hungry in the surrounding townships due to the stark reality of increases in transport and food costs. Many poorer dog owners in the surrounding townships are going to feel the brunt of these increases. Our goal with this campaign is to reach 500kg of dog pellets.
